Olives is a Todd English restaurant located near union square, NYC. We visited for lunch during restaurant week in 2013. It's a nicely decorated restaurant with decent food - what you'd expect from a restaurant in a nice hotel.

Items Ordered

Watermelon Salad

baby arugula, pumpkin seed brittle, feta, white balsamic vinaigrette
Cost:Part of the $25 3-course fixed price restaurant week menu

The appetizers were both excellent. The watermelon salad had sweet pieces of watermelon with a creamy white sauce and feta cheese.

Sweet Potato Bravas

honey, jalapeno, crumbled feta, avocado aioli
Cost:Part of the $25 3-course fixed price restaurant week menu

The sweet potato bravas was great. The honey sauce was very sweet, and it was caramelized on the potatoes. There were some tiny pieces of jalapeno peppers, and they added a nice little spice to the potatoes.

Grilled Summer Vegetable Panini

zucchini, peppers, onions, buffalo mozzarella, basil pistou, baguette
Cost:Part of the $25 3-course fixed price restaurant week menu

The vegetable sandwich was OK; there were some slices of roasted vegetables on a baguette bread. The sandwich had a very smokey flavor. The sandwich also came with a ton of french fries which were very good.

Roasted Red Snapper

summer vegetable faro, citrus burre blanc
Cost:Part of the $25 3-course fixed price restaurant week menu

The red snapper was unusually heavy for a fish dish - I think it was the buerre blanc. The fish had a rich buttery flavor that went nicely with the faro. There were a few small pieces of carrot and zucchini in the faro.

Strawberry Basil Buttermilk Cake

mascarpone mousse
Cost:Part of the $25 3-course fixed price restaurant week menu

The desserts were also excellent. The strawberries were quite tasty and went really well with the basil cake. The mousse was very creamy - almost like a non-frozen ice cream.

Chocolate Layered Cake

caramel coffee cream, black currant
Cost:Part of the $25 3-course fixed price restaurant week menu

The chocolate layer cake was also fantastic. It was rich and moist. The coffee cream was incredibly creamy and went really nicely with the cake.
