The museum of Arts and Design is a museum located on Columbus Circle in New York City. I would classify the museum as a modern art museum - I didn't see very many examples of design. The Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum is a much better design museum, also located in New York City.

When we were visiting the Museum of Arts and Design, the top two floors were filled with an exhibit called "Dead Or Alive". In this temporary exhibit, artists took things that were once living and made them into pieces of art, some of which also looked like other living things. I was surprisingly amused by a number of the items in this exhibit. It felt like modern art, but I was very impressed with the creativity that went into some of the pieces and the polish/skill level it took to refine and present the pieces.

The other floors were mainly just exhibits or modern or abstract art. At least one floor was devoted to plates, utensils, and other dishware. There were a couple pretty pieces of glass, but nothing substantial.

The top floor had a small workspace where two ladies were sculpting jars. They seemed friendly enough, although I wasn't overly interested in the jars they were making.

Cost & Directions

Standard admission is $15/person. We visited on "museum day" and were able to receive free admission by printing off a coupon. I'm glad I waited for museum day and didn't end up paying full price.

The Arts and Design museum is located at Columbus Circle, on 58th street between Broadway and 8th Ave.
