The Mono Cliffs Inn is located in the middle of nowhere! It is just north of Orangeville, Ontario. You would think that for such a remote location, it would need to offer superb food in order to attract any customers. I did not find that to be the case.

The building houses a fancier restaurant upstairs, and a less-expensive “Pub” area downstairs. In particular, we dined in the wine room. The wine room used to be the house well. In one of the basement rooms, a wall was knocked out, creating a short tunnel into the wine room. The wine room itself is very unique. It is incredibly quiet, in addition to being cooler than the rest of the building. The walls are surrounded with wine, as can be seen in the picture.

Lastly, we were served by the bartender Wayne. He was incredibly cheerful and jovial. He made an effort to learn everyone’s name over the course of the dinner, and was conversational and friendly.

Getting There

Part of the appeal with this restaurant is the remote location. It's located far away from civilization, so you will likely need to make a special trip. The drive through the area is quite scenic, consisting of large wooded areas and nice tree-covered hills. In the winter, I could see the drive being treacherous, but when there is no snow on the ground, the scenery is very nice.

Items Ordered

Foccacia Sandwich

Foccacia with grilled vegetables, brie, & spring mix salad
Cost:$12.95

C: The salad was nothing extraordinary, and consisted of some plain greens with a vinegar dressing. The sandwich had a large number of mushrooms, and brie cheese. It was served warm, causing the pieces of brie to melt. It had a very bitter flavor that I found distasteful.

A: The dressing on the salad was a little bit cheesy. I loved the sandwich. I did find it bitter as well, but I didn’t mind the bitterness. I also loved the mushrooms so was pleased to have so many of them.

Penne Pasta

Penne Pasta with grilled vegetables, chicken, and tomato basil sauce
Cost:$13.95

C: The penne was slightly salty, but was quite enjoyable overall. It had a small number vegetables (broccoli, peppers, and onions), and a perfect amount of chicken pieces, and was topped with a light sprinkle of parmesan cheese. It could have been improved with whole wheat pasta, but overall, was very pleasant.

A: It tasted very fresh with a nice sauce. There was a nice selection of vegetables.

Chocolate Pate

Cost:$6.95

C: The chocolate pate was delicious. It was a very thick chocolate mousse – only slightly softer than butter. It was served with a mango sauce that complemented the mousse very nicely.

A: It was very chocolately and the mango sauce was excellent with the chocolate flavour.
