Mesa Grill is a Bobby Flay restaurant just west of Union Square in New York City. The restaurant is somewhat upscale and the food has a nice spicy southwest flare.

Dress

Mesa Grill is somewhat fancy - there are always people in suits, although slightly more causal (nice jeans / nice shirt) is appropriate too.

Cost

Somewhat more expensive than average - most entrees are around $30.

Reservations

Reservations are recommended for dinner. We just walked in on a Saturday to investigate if they had any room available. The wait for a table was about 4 hours, but they told us there would be space available at the bar in about 5 minutes. The bar still offered a full menu, so we ate there instead.

Items Ordered

Pumpkin Soup

with Allspice, Red Chile Pepitas and Maple Crema
Cost:$12

The pumpkin soup was quite creamy and had a delicious spice to it that isn't usually present in pumpkin soups. Although it wasn't a large portion, the bowl was quite large, making it look smaller than it actually was.

Brussel sprouts with pomegranates and toasted pecans

Cost:$7

The brussel sprouts felt like they had been fried in a good amount of butter, and their flavor went surprisingly well with the pomegranate. There was also a bit of a sauce on them that might have been a vinaigrette.

New Mexican Spice Rubbed Pork Tenderloin

with Bourbon-Ancho Chile Sauce and Sweet Potato Tamale with Crushed Pecan Butter
Cost:$29

The rubbed pork tenderloin was fantastic. It has a delicious spice on its exterior that goes incredibly well with the pork. It has a good amount of spice to it that leaves your mouth feeling pleasantly warm. The sweet potato tamale tasted like corn - I couldn't tell that there was any sweet potato in it. It was still very good though.
