Makuwa-Kuwa is the restaurant located in the Victoria Falls Safari Lodge. It has a very nice view of the watering hole in the back. It is also the same place where the breakfast buffet is served for guests of the lodge. The staff and cuisine are tailored to an American/European audience. The tables are all outdoors, but covered (so it feels like they're indoors).

Dress

There is a dress code in the evening, but it didn't seem to be strictly enforced. Fairly casual clothing was acceptable.

Cost

The food is a bit pricier than other restaurants in the city, but also a bit fancier. The water was also expensive, especially considering we had free water in the room, but the food was so salty, it was needed.

Reservations

Although we made a reservation, when we were being seated we were told we could not have a seat by the viewing window, even though it was available. That was annoying.

Items Ordered

Amuse Bouche

We were provided with a free amuse bouche. It was a small chicken salad on a puff pastry with a slice of cucumber and light mustard sauce.

Winter Squash Soup

Lightly curried butternut puree topped with cracked coriander seed creme and a cheese straw
Cost:$6

The curry in the soup was a nice twist, although it was only very lightly spiced. Still, it was a pretty good butternut squash soup.

Victoria Falls Safari Lodge 'Pumba' Fillet

Marinated warthog fillet served with a sage scented potato lasagne, lashed with homemade white wine flavoured BBQ sauce.
Cost:$20

The warthog was surprisingly tender and covered in a nice sauce. The mashed potato was wrapped in a thin layer of pasta. That was pretty weired.

Butternut and Spinach Souffles

A duo of vegetarian souffles presented with a spicy vegetable spring roll, grilled olive oil basted root vegetables, and a piquant tomato coulis.
Cost:$16

The spinach souffle was incredibly salty - to the point where we had difficulty eating it. The butternut souffle was a bit salty, but mostly sweet and fluffy. The sauce in front was a tomato sauce. The spring rolls had lightly curried vegetables and were an odd combination with the souffles.
