Les Pavés de Saint Jean is a restaurant in the old city of Lyon. There were a lot of restaurants in this area, and many of them had exotic items on the menu. Les Pavés de Saint Jean had a selection of more normal choices. Everything was reasonably good here - nothing was great, but it was affordable and decent food.

The menu included English descriptions as well as French. The waitress also spoke English fairly well.

Very casual

Cost

Quite affordable. Most restaurants in the area allowed you to choose from a couple fixed price menus. Here, too, visitors could choose from fixed priced menus of 12€, 15€, and there was one higher priced option.

Items Ordered

Hot goat cheese salad with toast

Cost:The "Entrée" for the Menu du Bouchon (15€)

The salad was mostly lettuce, with a wedge of tomato. There may have been a bit of horseradish in the dressing.

The toast had a creamy goat cheese on top - it was soft, like a brie cheese.

Sliced Chicken

Sliced chicken with cream sauce and mushrooms
Cost:The "Main Course" for the Menu du Bouchon (15€ for the three-course dinner)

The chicken dish consisted of a number of chunks of chicken in a white cream sauce, served with white rice, and a roasted tomato. The cream sauce was quite tasty, and went well with the chicken and rice. The chicken, which was probably cooked in the sauce, was nice and moist.

Lamp Chop

Lamp chop with provence herbs
Cost:The "Main Course" for the Menu du Bouchon (15€ for the three-course dinner)

The lamb chop was a bit tricky to eat. It was mostly fat and bone, and you needed to cut carefully to get out the pieces of meat. The meat itself was fairly flavorful, although it was more chewy than it should have been.

The lamb chops were served with scalloped potatoes that were delicious - they were creamy and cheesy.

Lemon Pie

Cost:The "Dessert" for the Menu du Bouchon (15€ for the three-course meal)

The lemon pie had a very thick lemon jelly on a thin tart crust. It had a nice and strong lemon flavor, although the jelly was too thick.

Chocolate Mousse

Cost:The "Dessert" for the Menu du Bouchon (15€ for the three-course meal)

The chocolate mousse was also very thick. The flavor was pretty good, but it was more like a thick pudding than a mousse. There wasn't much air in it.
