Las Chicas Locas is a Mexican tapas restaurant located on 25th street just E of 7th Ave. The area isn't the nicest part of New York - it feels pretty quiet in the evening. Still, the restaurant has a decent outdoor patio. None of the food was particularly spicy.

Dress

Casual on the patio; maybe slightly nicer indoors

Cost

Most tapas items were around $10-$15 each. 1.5 items per person seemed like a good number.

Reservations

It was very quiet when we arrived at 7:45p on a Saturday evening. There were only two or three other groups on the patio.

Items Ordered

Guacamole for the Table

Pico de Gallo, Cilantro, Red Onion, Warm Tortilla Chips
Cost:$10

The guacamole was pretty decent. The tortillas came with two types of salsas - one red and one green. Both were fairly mild.

Chicken Mole

Roasted Corn, Radishes
Cost:$14

This dish was a chicken breast with barbecue sauce served over a bed of corn. The barbecue sauce was sweet and went decently well with the chicken, but there wasn't much to it.

Carne Asada Quesadilla and Trio of Tacos

Quesadilla: Fried Egg, Asadero Cheese, Pickled Jalapenos, Zesty Chile Sauce Tacos: Carnitas with Roasted Pineapple and Cilanto, Crispy Pescado with Cole Slaw and Chipotle Sour Cream, Grilled Steak with Lime Sour Cream and Pico de Gallo
Cost:Carne Asada Quesadilla $11; Trio of Tacos $15

The quesadilla was pretty good. The beef was tender and it had a nice cheese. Despite the description, it wasn't very spicy. The burritos were fairly plain tasting and a little bit dry.

Grilled Prawn Skewers

Chile Garlic Sauce
Cost:$9

The shrimp on skeweres looked pretty neat. They tasted like shrimp in oil. Unfortunately, they were baked onto the skewers quite well and were difficult to rip off with teeth (and impossible to remove with a fork).

Churros con Chocolate Sauce, Mexican Chocolate Chili Cake

Cost: Churros con Chocolate Sauce $6; Mexican Chocolate Chili Cake $7

The chocolate cake hardly had any spice to it. The churros were delicious. They were covered in sugar and cinnamon with a little pot of chocolate to dip them in. They were messy, but fantastic!
