Ken's House Of Pancakes was a recommended restaurant in the town of Hilo, Hawaii. We were fairly disappointed in it. It's a 50's style diner, but much of the decor is quite dated. One of the neat things about the restaurant is that you can get any menu item (breakfast/lunch/dinner) at any time of the day. The quality of the food was quite poor, although the prices were fairly affordable. Also, there's not much better in the immediate area, so Ken's gets points for being one of the few restaurants in Hilo available.

Cost

Most restaurants in Hawaii are a bit more expensive than you would find on the mainland, but Ken's was quite affordable (for what it was offering).

Very casual

There is a good sized parking lot just in front of the restaurant.

Items Ordered

Cup Of Soup

Cost:$2

The soup of the day today was a tortilla soup. This soup had a bit of a spice. It tasted like a tomato/taco soup. The cup was quite small, although it was still a good size for an appetizer.

Coconut Milkshake

Cost:$4.15

This milkshake tasted like a vanilla milkshake with a bit of coconut flavor. The cream on top tasted funny - it was a "whipped edible oil product", but certainly not whipped cream. Otherwise, the milkshake was pretty good. Our group also tried the lilikoi (passion fruit) milkshake. It was very similar to the coconut milkshake, with only a slight hint of lilikoi.

Ken's Deluxe Burger

With special sauce and salad greens also!
Cost:$8.25

This hamburger tasted like a typical McDonalds hamburger. It certainly wasn't of very high quality, and the beef patty was very thin. The sauce on the burger tasted like mayo. The fries were lightly battered, and pretty good.

The salad that came with the burger was very plain. It was just cheap lettuce and dressing, with a little bit of carrot and cabbage. We asked for the dressing to be served on the side, and our waiter obliged.
