The Hotel Shattuck Plaza is a nice hotel in Berkeley, CA. The location of the Shattuck Hotel is great - the hotel is right next to the "Downtown Berkeley" BART station, and it's also very close to Berkeley campus. There are a number of bars/restaurants in the immediate vicinity - Shattuck Avenue looked like quite the place with lots of nightlife and activity. It took about 30 minutes to get to downtown San Francisco from the hotel, and depending on what time of day you were traveling, you may have to transfer to a different BART train.

The hotel itself was quite nice. It was surprisingly large, and the hallways were unusually laid out, with more twists than you would expect in a hotel. The room was nice and comfortable; I would rate it 4 stars.

The one complaint I had was that when I went to check in, the power at the hotel went off. That wasn't their fault, but they could have dealt with it a bit better. They pretty much told me (and everyone who was waiting to check in) to go have a seat at the hotel bar (which is just on the side of the lobby) and wait for the power to come back on. After awhile, we were eventually checked in (before the power came back on), but the wait seemed unnecessary. A free drink would have at least been nice.
