Hotel Diocleziano is a hotel in Rome, Italy. The staff all spoke English. The front desk staff were helpful in providing information about the area. They also offered to hold our room key at the front desk so we wouldn't have to carry it around with us all day. The hotel offered free internet and free soft drinks from the mini-bar! That was an unexpected nice gesture. The fridge was restocked daily with water, juice, and soda.

Location

The hotel is just a few minutes walk from the Rome Termini station. The area seemed quite safe, and there were a lot of other hotels on the street. It's location makes it very convenient for taking the subway or the train to the airport. The subway can easily take you to several popular places in Rome, including the Colosseum and the Vatican. However, it was a long walk (about 40 minutes) to get to Old Rome where the Pantheon and several old piazzas are located.

Room

The room was fairly nice and a decent size. It contained all the typical furniture. The TV was a regular old TV, but it worked. The closet also had a working safe. The bed was two single beds pushed together (this seemed typical in Italy). The bathroom was really nice. The marble floors were heated! The shower was really nice to shower in and had a strong water pressure. Typical toiletries were provided in the bathroom.

Breakfast

The hotel breakfast was included in our package. Breakfast included a variety of cold cuts, cheeses, tomatoes, cake, pastries, some fruit, cereals, yogurt, hard boiled eggs, and some hot items including scrambled eggs and Italian-style bacon (that looked unappealing). There was also bread and a toaster for making toast. I was expecting the staff at breakfast to take my drink order when we arrived (like they did at other hotels we stayed at in Italy), but they never did. It wasn't until I heard someone else request a cappuccino that I realized I could ask for one. The buffet had a self-serve coffee machine for American coffee, but espressos were made to order. There was also a freshly-squeezed orange juice maker. The staff made a glass of freshly-squeezed juice upon request. The juice was delicious! The staff seemed a bit annoyed any time someone requested a drink, but I didn't hesitate to ask anyway.

Cost

The hotel cost around $200 per night. Prices vary by date, check the hotel website for room rates.
