Harvest Moon is a restaurant located in St. Jacobs, just outside Waterloo. It's a "family style" diner restaurant that advertises itself as the place locals eat. It's a great place to go with a group of people. The menu has a large selection so everyone can find something they will enjoy.
It's a bit off the beaten track, outside of the main St. Jacobs village area, so unless you're looking for it, it's unlikely you'll find it.
Cost
The restaurant is fairly affordable, and offers good value for what you get. Most entrees are in the $10 range.
Dress
Very casual
Service
There's not much to say about the service - it's average for this type of restaurant.
Parking
There is lots of free parking just outside the restaurant. It's located in a very rural area, so parking isn't a problem.
Items Ordered
Chicken Noodle Soup
The chicken noodle soup was the soup of the day - it was quite good. It had a nice chicken broth base, with a few noodles in it.
Pork Schnitzel
Lightly breaded seasoned tender porkThe Pork Schnitzel was a pretty large piece of pork, served with sauerkraut on top, veggies, rice, and potatoes. The potatoes could either be french fries, home fries, baked, or mashed. The home fries were pretty good - they tasted like frozen potatoes you can purchase in a grocery store. The schnitzel was pretty good, and made for an enjoyable meal.
As this is a fairly large meal, there is also a "light" version available for slightly less money.
Chicken Souvlaki Dinner
Our Souvlaki is marinated, char broiled pork or chicken, served with fresh TzatzikiThere is a lot of food here - easily more than average person should eat in a single meal. The dinner comes with two sticks of souvlaki. The chicken is quite good, and has a nice barbecued flavor. It also comes with rice, and a greek salad that is mostly lettuce, but still is not bad. The dressing on the salad is quite good and not overdone. It also comes with two pita slices, and your choice of potato. The french fries also tasted like the type of fries you can purchase frozen at a grocery store and heat up in the oven.
For only $12, this is quite a good deal - there's probably enough food here that you can take the rest home and have them for lunch the following day. There is also a light version of this meal that is smaller and cheaper.
