This Hampton Inn is located just south of the Chicago Midway Airport, on Cicero Ave. It is also located a 15 minute drive (if there is no traffic, which doesn't often happen) from downtown Chicago.
The area it is located in on S Cicero Avenue is full of big box stores, and feels quite safe. However, south of the area, on smaller streets, there are some sketchy neighborhoods that feel unsafe to drive through. If you go far enough north on Cicero Avenue (to the I-290 highway), there is some sketchy activity in the evenings. There are lots of homeless people in the northern area that go around to cars in the evening/night to try and solicit money.
The hotel itself is quite nice, and offers a complimentary breakfast each morning (more on that later). It is a typical 3-star hotel, and is fairly comfortable. During our visit, the hotel was too full to accommodate our "2 queen bed" request, so we had a room with one king bed, and one pull-out couch. There were four people staying in the room at the time, and we were paying extra for that privilege. However, the cleaning staff never left four towels - it was quite irritating. Each day, we needed to go to the front desk and request an extra towel. We also seemed to have trouble with our card keys, they were disabled before our stay was ended and we had to have them all reset twice.
The Hot Breakfast
This Hampton Inn advertised their "hot breakfast" as being something impressive. Each day, they offered one hot dish (that alternated between three different items during our five mornings there). They were all terrible - there's nothing good to say about them. The most paletteable hot breakfast was a bagel with egg and bacon bits on top. The other two breakfasts (one was an egg patty with a sausage patty, and the other was "fried french toast sticks") were absolutely awful.
The breakfast itself was actually quite good though - they offered a few cereal choices, toast and bagels for toasting, cream cheese, "butter" (which was really an "edible oil product"), jam, danishes, muffins, and donuts. They also offered yogurt cups, and mixed fruit pieces that came from a bag. There was enough variety that I was pleased with my breakfasts all week.
Cleanliness
The room was adequately clean. The bathroom floor was a little bit dirty behind the door on the day we arrived. Also, when I dropped the room key under a night table I discovered it was quite dirty under there. The bathroom was also lacking a fan, making it very humid in the room after showers. We eventually figured out how to open the window which helped a bit.
Cost
Since room rates vary, check the Hampton Inn website for room rates on the nights you are interested in. During out visit, they were approximately $150-$170/night. If you have a car, there is an additional $10/day parking charge.
