Germano's Trattoria is an Italian restaurant in the Little Italy area of Baltimore. There were a number of Italian restaurants in the area, but I got the impression they were all the same - over-priced and over-salted American-style Italian dishes without much flavor. Germano's Trattoria fit that description perfectly. The food wasn't awful, it was just incredibly uninspired and average.

Service

Our waitress was fairly attentive, but we were the only people eating at the restaurant at the time.

Items Ordered

Germano's Salad of Seasonal Mixed Greens

Mixed greens tossed in balsamic vinaigrette with diced onions, tomato and fresh mozzarella
Cost:$8.50

The salad was split between two people, and they split it into halves for us, so only half the salad is pictured here. The salad consisted mostly of lettuce with a couple small pieces of tomato, onion, and mozzarella cheese thrown in. The dressing was mild tasting.

Lasagna

Cost:$17.99

The lasagna was a pretty typical American-style lasagna. It was far too salty, and the cheeses weren't authentic cheese (and thus were also too salty). The lasagna had a pretty average meat sauce. It was an OK lasagna, but at $18 it seemed quite overpriced.

Red Beet Ravioli

Homemade ravioli filled with red beets and roasted garlic, sauteed in veal stock reduction and topped with fresh mushrooms
Cost:$17.99

The red beet ravioli seemed like it could be an interesting dish. Unfortunately it was quite disappointing. The ravioli were incredibly sweet and did not have much beet flavor. It tasted like they had taken the filling from a cannoli, dyed it red with a little bit of beet juice and then filled the ravioli. The mushroom/tomato/garlic topping was the most enjoyable part of this dish - the veggies were nicely fried and served with garlic and a lot of oil.
