Not being local to the area, we were visiting Energy Thursdays to see some of the world's great DJs - DJ Markski and Erik K. Both Markski and Erik K are resident DJs at Energy Thursdays, although only one of the two is there on any given Thursday).

The club plays a mix of house, trance, top 40, and hip-hop music, depending on the DJ that is currently playing.

The club is located in a suburb of Chicago in an industrial area. There is pretty much nothing else to do in the area. The exterior of the club is also very plain, and the only thing to identify it is the sign shown in the picture.

Admission

If you are over 21, you can fill out a form on their website and receive free admission (otherwise, expect to pay - I think the cover charge is around $10, although I am not certain). When we were there, a minimum age of 17 was advertised.

After entering, you will be frisked thoroughly. There are both male security guards and female security guards, and you will be examined by someone of the same gender. I discovered at this point that cameras were not permitted in the club, so unfortunately there are no indoor pictures.

Experience

There is a large raised dance floor, a small 21+ alcohol area, and a seating area (in the same room as the dance floor). We arrived around 10:30p, and the dance floor started getting busy around 11p.

Kids these days...

At the time we visited, smoking was permitted in the club. Soon after the club opened, the dance area was thick with smoke. By the end of the evening, our clothes were saturated by the stink. We noticed that some of the teenagers were lighting cigarettes (probably to "look cool"), but were not smoking them. They would just let them burn out in their hands, then light another one, only to let it burn without smoking it. Apparently there are social points to be gained by holding a cigarette in your hand.

Another strange thing we noticed is that girls no longer find it necessary to wear pants - after all, why wear clothes when you can go out dancing in your underwear? This was not the norm, as only a few people were doing it. Clearly they were just doing it for attention, but we still found it quite strange.

Dress

If you're a girl, absolutely anything goes. Seriously - you don't even need to wear pants! For guys, the majority of people were wearing nice jeans and button shirts, although there were some t-shirts, and one person was even wearing shorts.
