Ein Gedi Field School
Ein Gedi, HaDarom, Israel
07-6584288
The Ein Gedi Field School is a residence in Ein Gedi that occasionally has rooms available for visitors to stay in. The field school is located a short 5-minute drive away from the Dead Sea, so it's a convenient place to stay if you're planning on going swimming, or going to visit the Ein Gedi Botanical Gardens.
Potential visitors should keep in mind that this is a field school, not a hotel, so the rooms are functional, but not fancy. The room we stayed in had four beds, and two bathrooms. One of the bathrooms had a shower.
The Room
The rooms were fairly clean and tidy, and even had a sink and coffee pot. There were four individual beds in the room, and one of the beds was a bunk bed (meaning that there were actually five beds, but the bunk bed was not in use).
When we arrived, the beds had clean sheets on them, and pillow cases for us to put on the pillows. Each bed had a small little light above it, and an extra blanket in case it got cold.
The Bathrooms
Our room had two bathrooms. One of the bathrooms had a toilet, shower, and sink, while the other bathroom just had a toilet. The shower was one of the local confusing shower systems - the hot water needed to be "turned on" and heated up before it was available.
The Breakfast
Breakfast was included as part of our stay. The breakfast was kosher, and was a typical Israeli breakfast. That means the breakfast consisted mostly of salad, olives, and a cheese selection. The salad, like all salads in the area, was tomatoes and cucumbers cut up into tiny, tiny pieces. The only hot item available was fried eggs. White bread and a "corn flakes" type cereal was also available, as was chocolate pudding.
Cost
For a room that housed four people, we paid 600 NIS for a single night.
