Dr. Roberta Bondar was visiting the University of Waterloo as a guest speaker. She presented a talk entitled "When we get to Mars, will our legs be flippers? What space medicine teaches Canadians about life on Earth".

During the 90 minutes or so she was speaking, she covered a wide variety of topics. She had a slide show (consisting of different photos), and she spent some time talking about each of the pictures.

The main concept of her talk was that the effects of zero gravity cause the human bodies to change in remarkable ways. Since it would take some time for a journey to mars, we don't know exactly how the human body would react to changes during that time.

Dr. Bondar was an excellent speaker, and everything she said was fascinating. I got the impression that I could listen to her for many hours, and still be interested in what she was saying.

If you get the chance to see Dr. Bondar speak in the future, don't miss it! She's quite an impressive person.
