The District Six Museum serves as a reminder of the tens of thousands of people who were forcibly removed from the area when apartheid government declared the area "white". We visited the district six museum as part of Thompsons Walk To Freedom Halfday Tour.

The museum houses historical displays, time lines, personal stories, and even some artifacts from the apartheid era. I found it surprising to see how people had treated one another so recently. A visit to Cape Town is more complete with an understanding of its recent history. This museum provides that.

Cost

From what I could tell, the museum did not charge admission.

Estimated Visiting Time

I thought the museum was quite well structured and provided a good overview of the history of events during the apartheid era. Everyone you talk to who lived through apartheid times has their own take on events. While that is valuable, and often very memorable, a museum like this provides a nice objective view. We spent about 20 minutes here before our guide told us it was time to move on. If traveling on my own, I probably would have liked to spend an hour here.
