Cafe Mogador is located on the popular restaurant street, St. Marks place, just east of 1st Ave. They serve Moroccan food. I've never tried Moroccan food before, so I can't say how this compares to others. I thought some of the food was pretty good, and some of it was bland and dry. The restaurant has a cozy casual feel with a bit of a foreign decor.

Dress

Casual - shorts and a t-shirt is fine.

Cost

Appetizers are around $10 and entrees are around $15

Service

The service was usual.

Reservations

On a Thursday evening there were several tables available and the restaurant didn't completely fill up while we were there.

Items Ordered

Falafel Plate with Salad and Tahini

served with harissa and pita bread
Cost:$9.50

The Falafel were excellent - probably the best dish here. They are made with a green herb and have a good taste. The tahini was also quite good as was the salad which had a light lemon dressing.

Hummus Platter with warm chickpeas

served with harissa and pita bread
Cost:$6.50

The hummus here is quite good too. Each appetizer came with two pita breads - white and whole wheat.

Merguez Cous Cous

A Specialty of the House. Fluffy grains of semolina steamed over a bouillon of meat and vegetables served with an assortment of vegetables, chickpeas, and raisins.
Cost:$15

I wanted to try the cous cous since it's noted as their specialty. I was a bit disappointed in that it wasn't anything special. The cous cous itself was pretty plain. I liked the stuff mixed in - the raisins and vegetables, but there wasn't enough of it.

The Merguez is a spicy sausage. I found it to be very spicy and a also very dry dry. I'm not sure what the meat was, but it wasn't a very flavorful meat except for the spice. It was quite disappointing.

Chicken Skewer

Skewered marinated meat grilled over charcoal served with grilled vegetables and Basmati rice.
Cost:$13

The skewer was decent. The chicken was marinaded in some nice spices, but it was a bit dry and somewhat bland. The rice was plain and the vegetable skewer was just red peppers and onion.
