Cafe Del Mare is an Italian restaurant located in the Greenwich village area of Manhattan. There are a large number of restaurants in the area, and we chose this one because it looked decent, and had a good looking menu. Unfortunately, we were all a bit disappointed with what we ordered. Every dish felt like it was missing something.
Dress
Fairly casual, although there weren't many other people in the restaurant.
Cost
Most entrees were around $20, with appetizers around $10-$15.
Reservations
The restaurant was completely empty except for us at 7pm on a Saturday evening.
Items Ordered
Blood Orange Shrimp Salad
with caramelized fennelThis was probably the best item we ordered. The sauce was very flavorful, and tasted quite fattening and delicious. Our table was also given some nicely spiced bread that went well with the sauce.
Orechiette
with Broccoli Rabe & SalcicciaThis was a very plain dish, although the meatballs tasted very rich and fatty. The pasta was very bland, and it didn't seem to have anything on it. Nothing in this dish seemed to go together either - none of the flavors complemented each other.
Seared Salmon
served with cucumber salad and tomato water. The seared salmon was quite plain tasting on its own, although the cucumber and tomato pieces it was served with had a strong lemon flavor. With all the citrus, the dish had a nice summery flavor, and felt very out of place on a cold february evening.
I also don't think I would combine the fresh tasting salad with the salmon - the two flavors didn't seem to go together.
