The Borghese Gallery houses a collection of artwork inside a palace. The gallery is on two floors of the palace. The lower level has some beautifully decorated rooms and houses several pieces of Bernini sculptures. The Bernini sculptures are really the highlight of the gallery. They are outstanding. The upper level of the gallery is mostly paintings and wasn't as interesting. The gallery had several tour guides taking groups through. The groups made the rooms feel crowded, but the groups cleared out fairly quickly. After the groups had left, the gallery felt empty by comparison. It was nice to be able to enjoy the artwork in a quiet setting.

There was not a lot of interesting information about the art pieces. Each room had a sheet of paper outlining the names of all the artworks. There was a brochure available in different languages that explained about the history of the palace, but we had a hard time finding one in English. It might have been worthwhile getting an audio guide. We managed to get some tidbits of information from the various tour guides that were taking groups through the gallery.

Tickets

Tickets must be reserved in advance. Entrance tickets are €8.50 for adults. An audio guide is available for an additional charge. Tickets can be reserved by calling - English operators are available. People are allowed into the gallery every 2 hours, and you must leave at the end of your 2 hour period.

Visiting Information

There is a 2 hour time limit in the gallery. You really don't need to spend 2 hours to see everything. If you are fast, you can see everything in 30 minutes, otherwise expect to spend at least an hour.

Bags and cameras are not allowed in the gallery. Everything must be checked before you enter - even purses. Checked items are locked in a locker and you are given a key. I felt safe about leaving my things there and nothing went missing.

The gallery is located inside the Borghese Gardens. The gardens are very large, quite nice, and house several other art galleries and activities.
