Blue Man Group is a live show consisting of three men (who are wearing blue makeup) performing visually appealing music and creative art pieces.

I hadn't seen a Blue Man Group show before this one in New York City (at the Astor Place Theater), so I didn't really know what to expect. The show was mildly entertaining, but was definitely geared towards a juvenile audience. There were lots of kids in attendance. I'm sure I would have enjoyed the show more if I were in the 7-13 age group. For example, one of the opening acts was seeing how many marshmallows one of the Blue Men could stuff in their mouth.

The first few rows (6-7 rows?) is the "wet zone" (or "paint zone"), and audience members are given plastic raincoats to wear during the show. The show features some audience interaction, but nothing unreasonable. There were a couple acts where people were selected from the audience to do things like get dressed up in a costume (and then painted blue), or eat a twinkie on stage with the Blue people.

Several of the acts involved making music in interesting ways. The show started with the blue men playing drums. They slowly added wet colored liquid to the drums, so when the drum was hit, a splash of color would fly up. They also played a set of "drums" constructed from a set of tubes, where different tube lengths created different notes. The show was quite loud at points.

For the last act, there were lots of toilet paper rolls affixed to the back of the theater, and the audience members pulled the toilet paper down over their heads to the front of the stage. As a kid, it's one of those things that just sounds like a lot of fun to do, but you'd probably get in trouble for doing it, so you avoid it. It sounds stupid (and environmentally unfriendly), but it was probably one of the more fun parts of the show.
