B. Cafe is a Belgian restaurant with locations on the upper west side and the upper east side. We visited their location on the upper east side. They offer a bar area with a good selection of Belgian beers, and a dining area. We were pretty disappointed with the meals that we had here. They both just seemed like a lot of meat and fries without anything else to them.

We were seated in the enclosed patio in late winter. The area was heated with a space heater, but several times in the evening we had to ask them to turn it on because it had gotten quite cold.

It's a fairly casual place

Cost

Appetizers were $8-$18 and mains were between $18-$30.

Items Ordered

Roasted Beet Salad

Aged Goat Cheese / Mache
Cost:$14

The beet salad was probably one of the better items that we had at B. Cafe. There were just a few slices of beet, a little bit of greens, and two slices of bread topped with a soft goat cheese. It was a pretty typical, but enjoyable, beet salad.

Chicken Vol Au Vent

Belgian Chicken Stew / Mushrooms / Pearl Onion / Fries
Cost:$18

The chicken main was a few large pieces of chicken topped with a pastry, and served with a basket of fries on the side. There were a couple small mushrooms, and perhaps two pearl onions. The chicken was floating in a cream sauce. It was tasty, but the combination of cream, fries, and pastry felt very heavy. The fries were fresh and greasy and served with ketchup, mayonnaise, and curried mayonnaise.

Carbonnade Flamande

Belgian beef stew cooked with dark beer / Fries
Cost:$21

The beef dish was also disappointing. It was a few large chunks of beef floating in a gravy. It was also served with fries on the side (the same sized basket as the chicken). I don't think there was anything other than beef in the stew. Like the chicken, a few bites of this were tasty, but it was too heavy.

Gauffres De Bruzelles Chantilly

Belgian Waffle/ Whipped Cream / Chocolate Sauce
Cost:$10

The belgian waffle was quite good. It was covered with way too much whipped cream, and served with a little dish of a thick chocolate sauce on the side. The waffle was crispy on the outside, but soft on the inside. It was the best item we had here.
