The @venue restaurant is a slightly upscale restaurant located in the St. James area of London. We heard it was the best place to go for fish & chips. The decor was nice and modern, and the food was all pretty decent.

Reservations

We had no problem getting a table without a reservation on a monday evening.

Items Ordered

Celeriac & Apple Soup

Cost:£6.50

The celeriac & apple soup was mostly just a creamy soup. It was very mild tasting with a few pieces of apple that gave it a nice fresh taste.

Fish & Chips

Served in paper, tartare sauce
Cost:£15.50

The fish & chips were quite good. It tasted like they came from a cheap diner at a seaside, but made by someone who knows how to cook really well. Everything was perfectly done. The chips were thick cut and crispy, and nothing was soggy. The fish was served in paper (that was made to resemble a newspaper) shaped like a flower.

Curly Kale & Toasted Almonds

Cost:£3.50

The kale was probably the least healthy vegetable I've eaten. Kale is usually pretty healthy, but this was soaked in butter & salt. It was pretty tasty.

Braised Beef

Jerusalem Artichoke, cranberry
Cost:£16.50

The beef was pretty tender, but very fatty. There were some large chunks that were pure fat, in addition to the large veins of fat that were all throughout the meat. The berries added a nice sweet flavor to the beef, but there wasn't very many of them. The flavor of the sauce was good, but I've had better.
