Overall Experience: 6 / 10
Date Visited: Saturday, July 19, 2008

The Atomium was built as part of Expo '58 for the 1958 Worlds Fair. It is a large scale model of an iron crystal. It is quite a large building. It is neat to look at from the outside. You can also pay to go inside. The entrance fee allows you to go into 4 different spheres taking stairs or escalators from one sphere to another. The spheres have different displays and information about the construction of the Atomium. There is also an elevator that goes to the very top sphere where an observatory gives you a 360° view including downtown Brussels.

Estimated Visiting Time

If you are going just to look at the building from the outside, 30 minutes should be more than enough time. If you are going inside expect to spend at least 1 hour. When we visited there was also a 30 minute wait for the elevator to the top sphere observatory.

Cost

The entrance fee is €6 for students.

Getting There

The Atomium is located about 7.5km from the central train station in Brussels. You can take the subway to get there in about 15 minutes.
