Overall Experience: 3 / 10

The High Dam is located in Aswan, Egypt. It is a large dam located near the southern border of Egypt that blocks the Nile. We visited the Aswan Dam as part of Trafalgar's Best of Egypt tour.

I was disappointed at the visitor experience at the dam. There was a bus parking lot, and then a small display board that had a couple facts about the dam. There was nothing talking about the benefits or controversy caused by the dam, or the obstacles that were overcome during its construction. As with most tourist sites in Egypt, nothing was done to make this site more like a museum.

After getting out of the bus, we could take a look over both sides of the dam, but we needed to cross the street to get from one side to the other. There was some traffic, but it wasn't impossible to cross the street. There wasn't much to see on either side, but we took a couple pictures anyway.

Video cameras were not permitted at the dam, but still cameras were OK.

Cost

We visited with a tour group. As far as I know, no individual tickets were necessary, but we did have to stop briefly. It's possible that the tour guided stepped out and purchased entrance tickets briefly at that time.

Estimated Visiting Time

There really isn't much to see here. 10-15 minutes should be sufficient to look around and take a few pictures.
