Altar Boyz is an off Broadway musical performing at the New World Stages in New York City. The show is a parody of a Christian music band performing their last show on a cross country tour.
We paid half price to see the show, and felt that it was more or less worthwhile. It wasn't hysterically funny, but there were a few jokes that were pretty good. The show is a musical, so much of the dialogue (and many of the jokes) occur during songs. The music was ok... there weren't any catchy songs, although some of them had witty titles (like "Jesus called me on my cell phone").
I think the biggest complaint I had about the show was how politically correct it was. Although it pretended to be a parody of religion, it was very respectful of religions and didn't make any jokes at the expense of religion. They definitely could have gone further, and still have provided an acceptable experience for the majority of the audience.
