Alambres is a Mexican restaurant located in San Diego's Gas Lamp District. They have a small outdoor patio on the large sidewalk. They offer Mexican food that is more authentic than your typical American fast food Mexican restaurant.

The lunch special here was really good value. Our group wasn't very hungry, and we shared three lunch specials between six people.

Cost

The lunch special was a good deal for $6.49. Their regular menu prices looked a little bit pricey.

Items Ordered

Nachos and Salsa

Cost:Free

These nachos were served with 4 different sauces. Some were quite spicy, others were mild.

Lunch Special

3 Tacos, Rice & Beans, Soup
Cost:$6.49

The tacos could be ordered with chicken, beef, pork or vegetarian. We ordered the chicken. The chicken was grilled, but nothing special. The tacos were 3 small tortillas. They came with lettuce, sour cream, rice and beans. We had salsa served in bowls on the side. There was no guacamole.

The taco soup was pretty plain tasting. It was mildly spicy with a tomato base and some nacho pieces. It was a fairly large bowl of soup.

Lunch Special

3 Fajitas, Rice & Beans, Soup
Cost:$6.49

The fajitas came with chicken, beef, pork, or vegetarian. We ordered the pork. It came cooked on hot a plate with green peppers and onions. The pork was really good - definitely the best meat option. The fajitas came with rice and beans on the side and three regular sized warm tortillas. We found 3 tortillas wasn't enough for the amount of meat provided and had to order another 3 for $1.50.

This special was also served with the taco soup, pictured above.

Lunch Special

3 Enchiladas, Rice & Beans, Soup
Cost:$6.49

The enchiladas came with chicken, cheese or beef. We ordered the beef. The enchiladas were quite filling, and a larger overall meal than the tacos or fajitas (this special was better value than the others). The enchiladas were pretty good, although the beef wasn't as good as the pork.

This special was also served with the taco soup, pictured above.

Dress

Very casual.

Parking

There is street parking available around the gas lamp district for a fee.
